Paris in the Springtime
The reason I haven't posted before now (and I know I often start of my posts like this) is because I've had a difficult time trying to work out how to describe the Eiffel tour.
As I stood underneath the tower, I couldn't help but think it looked a little menacing. There are a lot of thin metal bars that look entirely unnecessary and so for the last three weeks I've being trying to articulate what it reminded me of AND this is what I could come up with.
At some angles the Eiffel tour looks like some elaborate Victorian torture device, except not one that was ever used for torture. no, the Eiffel tower looks like an ornate torture device created by a wealthy but mad, youngish Victorian man and presented at dinner parties, turning what was a lovely evening into a very uncomfortable one. Jokes made to alleviate the sombre mood falling flat, people not knowing exactly what to say and making their excuses to leave before desert.
Could my imaginary Victorian torture device be described as a folly...

You should write for Lonely Planet. This is the best description for a tourist spot I've ever read. It actually does make me want to see it.
